Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e.V.
The Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft is a nationwide association for the conceptual and practical further development of cultural policy. It was founded in Hamburg in 1976 and has been headquartered in the Federal City of Bonn since 1996. At the time, the motive for founding and developing the association was to bring the commitment to political reform of the 1970s (keyword »dare more democracy«) to bear in the cultural sphere as well. The establishment of an independent forum was intended to further develop cultural policy in the context of public communication.
The Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft is therefore not an association for representing professional interests, nor is it affiliated to any political party, church or trade union. It sees itself as an impartial instance that is committed to a modern and democratic cultural policy, so that the arts and culture can receive appropriate promotion in society. For over thirty years, it has been championing the development of equal cultural opportunities, as well as new forms of, and locations for, cultural (self-)presentation and encounters, in order to permit the emergence and safeguarding of the most pluralistic possible structure of sponsors of institutions for the creation and communication of the arts and culture.
In handling its diverse tasks, the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft is supported by its Institute for Cultural Policy (IfK). The IfK provides scientific policy advice and engages in application-related cultural policy research in the framework of the activities of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft.
Since the beginning of 2004, the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft has furthermore been the legal representative of the Cultural Contact Point Germany (CCP). The CCP is the national information and advisory agency regarding possibilities for the funding of cultural projects from the interdisciplinary Culture Programme (2007-2013) of the European Community.
The Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft publishes the »Kulturpolitische Mitteilungen« magazine. Four times per year, this publication provides the latest information on general trends and developments in cultural policy, practice-oriented reports, well-founded examinations of central topics and practical fields of culture and cultural policy, as well as book reviews and news.
